Noda Comment December 25, 2025
There are very few places in Japan where the Shinkansen “Nozomi” train stops at two stations within the same prefecture. Along with Hiroshima, Fukuyama is one of them. The “Now is the Future” monument in front of Fukuyama Station’s south plaza was installed in 2012 to commemorate the 95th anniversary of Fukuyama City’s municipal incorporation. Although it hadn’t received much maintenance since then, the restoration of the lighting and cleaning have made it shine brilliantly at night. Every time I return to my hometown of Fukuyama, I check on the maintenance status of the monument.

This year we happily complete the renovation of its gateway, the Fukuyama Station plaza, to mark the 95th anniversary of its birth as a city.
Mr. Noda is known not just in Japan; he has also established his reputation throughout the world, particularly in Greece and China. We are delighted that his work “The Future Is Now” will help illuminate Rose Town Fukuyama, the city that is flying toward the future, as well as its strength as a city that speaks to the world.
