ARTIST COMMENTS
The Nariwa exhibition surveys the evolution from my printmaking to painting and sculpture from my student days at Osaka University of Arts in 1972 to the present.
For people who have been accustomed to seeing my outdoor sculptures for many years, they seem to be unexpected and surprised when coming to the exhibition and seeing my earlier works.
The “Expression-110” silkscreen print was made in 1976, two years before I moved to the United States.
The maximum size of this print series was 240x480cm.
I made it in a 6-tatami apartment in Osaka. Now, I have assembled it in a gallery and have finally got to see it in its entirety.
Above are four of the six panels
If I had not gone to New York, I’m sure my life would have been completely unrelated to sculpture.
