Masaaki Noda – Educator

Masaaki Noda has been teaching art to students for over 20 years.  He believes that students need to free themselves from outside constraints and to express themselves without following rules.

In 2020, he taught sixth grade students from the Arima Elementary School in Fukuyama (福山市). He instructed the students to not copy or refer to the works of their fellow students, but to follow only their only inner creativity.

Students are Painting free of Mind.
Students surprised themselves what they have done without rule and control.

It is a class to draw using free style. Toddlers can draw freely, but older children who have learned the technique and scored cannot easily draw freely. As time goes by, it will come out from the inside, and it will awaken and pop. That is the most surprising thing for the students to have their inner creativity exposed.

All Students Proud of their Own Paintings. It was a precious day.

Students didn’t understand what they instinctively painted. I explained reason and process of each painting and made the students proud and confident.
I explain and interpret each student’s picture one by one, explaining the changes over time, the psychological state, and the results. (All three are the works of one student.) The “time of explanation is the essence of everything.” Students will understand, be convinced, and feel confident about what they have done.

After class, there are words of appreciation from the student representatives. Students who express their gratitude while choosing words hard in a tense atmosphere convey their sincerity. Later, we will get impressions of the lesson from all the students. It’s a picture I drew unconsciously, but by ruminating it later, I realize that I was the first person. These are valuable records.
